Anxiety Anxiety is a natural reaction that everyone experiences from time to time when faced with danger, threat or stress. When people become anxious, they typically feel upset, uncomfortable, and tense. People differ in the level to which they experience anxiety and in the types of situations that produce anxiety. Some individuals may feel more anxious in some situation compared to others. Anxiety becomes a problem when it is frequent or persistent such that it interferes with the individual’s life. Individuals are likely to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when their level of anxiety becomes so severe that it significantly interferes with their daily life and prevents them from doing what they want to do. Anxiety disorders effect the way a person thinks, feels, and behaves. They worry, have difficulties concentrating, or have unhelpful thoughts. They may avoid situations or places. Severe anxiety can also lead to other problems such as depression, relationship difficulties, and drug and alcohol abuse. There are a number of different anxiety disorders, these include: • Agoraphobia • Panic Attack / Panic Disorder • Specific phobia • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) • Health anxiety • Generalised anxiety disorder • Acute Stress Disorder If you are having problems with anxiety or suffer from anxiety disorder, seek help.
